Last Task for Test 3 ( Press Conference )

Finally, our last press conference ended last Thursday which means that our assignment for Test 3 is done officially. Each group had presented their best to convince the press on their issue such as for my group, The Geeks chooses the topic about the existence of UFO… Do you believe in it? Do our presentation can convince you all that there are UFO exist in our world? I think that there is still not enough explanation about it to be exposed to the press. We didn’t get much time to answer all the question from the floor. Although we have done a lot of preparation, but it still doesn’t make it. That is because I got nervous and shocked when I am the presenter in front of all press ( classmates ).
When I stand in front as the presenter, I saw a lot of style that have been used by them to get our attention. As usual, a lot of them shouting and keep shouting to get the attention as well as to get marks. Most of the voices that I’ve heard is monopolized by the girls while the guys are not shouting at all. And there are also people that stand on the chair to get our attention. Wow, that is such an enjoyable moment because in another class, we cannot do like that.
Well, when I am the press, I think that I’ve become a different person ( which means different ‘Ain ). It is for my own goods. I realized that my style to get the attention from the presenter is interrupting another questioner. However, I don’t have a courage to continue my question if somebody else interrupting my turn to questioning… haha.. But, it is okay as long as I have chances to question the presenter. And the most important is the objective of this Test 3 which Teech wants us to start critically thinking in English have achieved.
In conclusion, I enjoy at this press conference although there is still no satisfaction. Let's begin a new life with a new person… that is always be a critical thinker. Fighting till our last breath… hehe.

Last press conference.

Assalamualaikum and Hi!

Press conference. Critical thinking. Chance. These are what we are doing last Thursday and for the next press conference. The two awesome groups have presented their press conference and give new experience for me as a reporter. They look high confidence in their way to answer the question from the floor to make their facts look real to us. As a critical thinker, it put me in bad situation which I must fight with the others to get the chance. Unfortunately, I have only got a chance to ask the question to the presenter. Moreover, the situation be more worst when everyone shouted loudly to get attention from the presenter and the presenter in trouble when they cannot answer the question nicely.
I understand that we must fight for our marks on Test 3 in subject BEL 313. So, after this I must struggle, being more and more active to get the chance, and do well in my own group press conference to get the high marks. Good luck everyone and wish me luck too. :)

Opinions of mine :)

Fact be known that, two groups have successfully conducted their forums last week by bringing out the topics of 'The Fairies' and 'The Haunted Karak Highway'. Let us give an applause to that. I shall say that both groups have given out a fairly good performance. Information given out are enough so as to allow a long session of 'Questions and Answers' between both parties to be conducted in the assigned one hour. Lots of questions are given out back and forth on the floor. For the first forum, the members of the floor hesitated a lot but everything changed in the second round. A very chaotic and loud atmosphere are there in every corner. There were lots of jumping and shouting which is done to get the attention of the speakers. I for one, feel that it was a total chaos especially during the second round. Everyone is fighting to get marks through many ways such as by agreeing with others' opinion and lots of personal attacks are clearly visible. What worries me is what questions do i want to ask and how do i get the attention of the speakers with all those shrieks and shouts around? I guess to look beforehand on the topics presented can give me a better insight on the kind of questions that can be raised in the upcoming forums. All put aside, it is undeniable that i have gained lots of valuable knowledge on how to maximize my participation in the forum. For example, i can ask questions, agreeing with others and supporting the speakers by providing my opinions on the matter at hand. And yes, i do agree that i have to be bolder in seeking the attention of the speakers in front so as to allow my opinions or questions to be voiced out. InsyaAllah i will try my very best in the upcoming forums. Do give us your love and support in our group's presentation entitled 'UFO : Myth or Real?'. With that, assalamualaikum.

MEMENTO MORI - 22 AUGUST 2013

Assalamualaikum w.b.t and hi everyone…. =)
In this post, I want to share about my first experience being involved in a press conference. I have never been a reporter for the press conference before. Since last Thursday, the press conference from the group The Fairies and Haunted Karak Highway have given me a lot of new things and experiences being a reporter.

This course teaches me on how to think critically and become a person that will not easily accept others arguments or ideas. It is not easy to become critical thinkers. We must have the confidence in our own opinions and knowledge. Based on that, we can improve our skill in thinking about others’ opinions and ideas.

In the press conference, I’ve managed to questions the presenter. However, I’ve only managed a few questions to the presenter. That is because I couldn’t get the attraction from the presenter. There were too many reporters that also want to ask the questions to the presenter.

I understand that all of us need to fight for our marks on Test 3- BEL313. Therefore, we should keep strong to go through all of this and to become critical thinkers. For next presentation, I wish that other groups will be prepared and do all your best. Chayyok3x!!! hehe.

Last press conference

Assalammualaikum and hi! Last Thursday was unforgettable day for me and this is my first time to be in the press conference. This is a good experience to me and I can learn how to critically thinking the question on the spot. However I feel so sad and frustrated because I don't get a chance to ask a question to the presenters even I was shouting loudly. Unfortunately the moderator do not selected me. Next time, I will try my best to fight with other media to ask the question and get my marks. Lastly, I would like to congratulate both The Fairies and Haunted Karak Highway's group. You guys were so awesomeJ
Wait and see to my presentation groups.
UNIDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECTS(UFO).
Good luck The Geeks!

FORUM ON LAST THURSDAY

Assalamualaikum w.b.t..
Hi every one. Last Thursday is a memorial day ever as there is a press conference from two lucky groups – fairies and Karak’s mystery. As I said so because, these two groups would not have to present the press conference anymore, and later they are going to be like a tiger devours its victim (such a revenge).

But, it is truly the critical thinking manner as every single idea is brought out on the spot. This situation forces the press media as well as the presenters to create a Q and A in critically style. Bear that, patience is a base emotion to all situations no matter what happen. Peace.

Do not know how the other two groups that will present next. Hear that  they are going to fight for existence of Bermuda triangle and mermaid. Are they enable to proof? Just wait and watch.  And fortunately, please wait for the real truth of UFO’s existence in this world.

Hope that, my group will perform well in the next press and that, can bring us a bulk of marks. At last, from me to all of us, a great thunderous applause as we did a great presses last Thursday and for the next too.

This article is so cool and to read it is such an enjoyable moment. However, I am wondering whether this article can truly be accepted and to be followed then? Notice that, this article is lack of facts or in other means, the sources of facts are not clear. I detect a number of fallacies made by the author. As for the first fallacy, it is definitely due to appeal to irrelevant authority. How great is the author that he can call himself as ‘The Guru of Cool’ and state “I am adult and I know better”. The readers will surely argue for the gazette which certified the author’s qualification in commanding people as being cool or not.

It is great if people can think of two things at a time. But, the author should not do the fallacy of wild goose chase. This is clearly stated as the author said, “smoking might kill you one day”. It should be linked to the health of the smoker right? But then, the author twists the issue of smoking in such an expensive authority as the money can be used for dating, and to buy clothes. This statement will surely create unsatisfied emotion among the readers especially the smokers. Cigarettes to smokers are like live-convincing.

At last, this article is nice to be a reading tool but the readers should not simply trust the ideas as there are a quite number of fallacies used. So, with that, take it and learn it.

This article makes sense and is successful in acknowledging the readers. In fact, almost every single idea, is followed by a study. It is quite tricky because the author is very clever to hide a number of fallacies. Therefore, the readers need to use a neat reading skills to recognize the fallacy that is made by the author. As for the first fallacy that I want to share vigorously is an appeal to tradition as the author state “mereka yang bergelar graduan tentu mengharapakan tawaran kerja sebaik tamat pengajian”. The question is that, are all post-graduates are really in need for jobs just after the studies?

Furthermore, there is a fallacy of the camel’s nose as the author said that, “tidak yakin berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggeris”  will influence to the failure in an interview. In fact, every post-graduate should have a technical and soft skill especially in twisting the hot environment of the interview. These skills are surely at utmost requirement as they show the credibility of the post-graduates in handling the tasks. The article also has a type of fallacy of ad populum in which the author state ”buktinya, ada graduan yang sudah berjaya kerana mereka ‘lebih dari layak’ berdasarkan semua criteria di dalam rajah FKI”. It is simply said that the author uses the common people’s beliefs to influence post-graduates.

In spite of having quite a number of fallacies, this article is a good sense to make the readers know the level of achievement in their future career.

Based on my reading, I think this article is high-quality article for all students from secondary school till post-graduates because it gives rough ideas for upcoming future in making decision and selecting jobs required. However, there are a few fallacies used by the author in this article.
One of the fallacies that have been used in this article is the fallacy of the slippery slope. It is clearly shown in the statement “Segelintir graduan gagal aspek Kemahiran Insan mereka. Mereka ini lazimnya tidak yakin berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggeris dan bahasa antarabangsa lain. Akibatnya, mereka langsung tidak dapat meyakinkan penemuduga ketika menghadiri temuduga”. The author tries to reminiscent the readers about the effects of failure in their “Kemahiran Insan”. Then, the author forms a series of cause-effect relationship to support her statement. Fail in some course does not mean that we cannot succeed.
Secondly, the author also used fallacy of appeal to ignorance. This is shown in the statement “Graduan mestilah memperoleh Nilai Purata Gred Kesuluruhan-PNGK(CGPA) tidak kurang daripada 3.00 dan 3.50 ke atas untuk memohon pekerjaan di firma antarabangsa”. The author simply draws the statement without any proof. Is there any proof that supports this statement? From this article, there is no proof that supports this statement, so this is obviously a fallacy of appeal to ignorance.

In a conclusion, this article is good and easy to be read. The author used a few fallacies to make the students and post-graduates realize about making decisions are important for their upcoming future.

In my opinion, this article is a good article. It is because the author gives opinions and advices to the readers. However, a lot of fallacies have been found in this article. These fallacies are used to influence the readers to follow his advice. It is clearly shown that fallacy of appeal to inappropriate authority is used such as “It is because I am ‘The Guru of Cool’”. He claims himself as ‘The Guru of Cool’ which the reference is questionable.

Other than that, the author tries to convince the readers by using fallacy of the slippery slope through the statement “It makes your teeth go yellow and gives pungent stench to your sweat”. In addition, the author also used fallacy of appeal to tradition.  It is definitely shown in the statement, “some of you are allowed to drink alcohol when you come of age”. Does it mean all people can drink alcohol when they reach the age of majority under Section 10 of Contract Act which is 18 years old? Meanwhile, Muslims are prohibited to drink alcohol.

Furthermore, the author simply draws the statement without any proof which is an appeal to ignorance. This is shown in the statement “Ecstasy or any other drug will react badly with your body chemistry”.

Lastly, the author used a lot of fallacies to persuade the readers to live in a healthy and nourishing lifestyle. In a nutshell, although there are a lot of fallacies used, this article is still a good article.

After reading this article, I strongly agree that this article is really good to be read by the university students. The author gives many beneficial information to readers. Most of the idea follows by the facts and examples to support the ideas. But, based on the statement “Rata-rata graduan hanya mengejar diploma dan ijazah saja dan kurang aktif apabila menuntut di universiti berbanding ketika di sekolah menengah dulu sedangkan aktiviti luar kurikulum ketika di universiti bermanfaat dalam merealisasikan kerjaya impian,” there is definitely a presence of fallacy which is hasty generalisation. The author makes the conclusion that generalises the entire diploma and degree students who are not active in university were active in school.
Next, in the statement “Segelintir graduan gagal dalam aspek Kemahiran Insan mereka. Mereka lazimnya tidak yakin berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggeris dan bahasa antarabangsa lain. Akibatnya mereka langsung tidak dapat menyakinkan penemuduga ketika menghadiri temu duga,” there are clearly the presence of slippery slope. The author forms a cause-effect relationship in order to support his argument. Besides, there are also the uses of the fallacy of appeal to tradition through the statement “Memang sudah lumrah hanya sebilangan kecil graduan saja yang akan dapat mencapai kerjaya impian mereka...,” because the author use the word ‘lumrah’ which means it is normal this situation happened.

As a conclusion, this is an enjoyable article to read. The author gives many ideas with the interesting supporting examples. I can say that this article can motivates the student in ways to be successful.

After reading this article, the first things that blow my mind is the author gives his idea without any strong reference. I also found that there are uses of fallacies used by the author in this article. Firstly, there are clearly uses of slippery slope by the statement “It makes your teeth go yellow and gives a pungent stench to your sweat”. It clearly shows that the author relates the yellow teeth’s and stench sweats together when you are smoking.
Next, there are uses of appeal to tradition due to the statement “I know, I know, some of you are allowed to drink alcohol when you come of age.” The author assumed that if the people come of age, people are allows for drinks or do whatever he want and clearly shows the presence of these fallacies. Besides, there is clearly the use of appeal to inappropriate authority. It can be seen by the statement “Even my friends tell me dancing is the best form of exercise, and it is definitely not a crime.” The question is who are author's friends? Does he really have the authority to say that? And if he really knows, what is he trying to complained about.

In a conclusion, this article is really fun to be read but it is not good enough in the scope of critical thinking. Also we can conclude that this article is full with ideas but are lack of fact that are not strong enough to support the arguments.

I think that this article is an interesting to read for teenagers. The teenagers can follow the steps given by the author but to work on some points the teenagers themselves need employ their own rationale base on the future impact. First fallacy use in the article is appeal to inappropriate authority. For example, the author wrote that the readers should follow the seven steps by the statement “Because I am an adult and I know better…because I am “The Guru of Cool”. How can the author thinks he is an adult and his lifestyle was cool to himself, so he knows by follow his step we as teenagers can be cool?
Second fallacy the author use is a slippery slope. This is trough the statement “It makes your teeth go yellow and gives a pungent stench to your sweat” which are all about the bad effects of smoking to people. Besides that, the author also includes the fallacy of appeal to tradition. He stated “Some of you are allowed to drink alcohol when you come of age”. So then, how about the Muslim teenagers? In Islam, Muslims are truly forbidden to drink alcohol and even to be in the environment that is related to alcohol.

As in conclusion, I think this article is good to read for teenagers and it encourages them to become cool in their life. This article is also provides many useful tips for all readers especially for me. So this article is cool and nice.

After reading this article, I think is a good article for graduate in research for the job. Nowadays, all post-graduates realize that there is the hot environment in searching job and career. First fallacy, the statement “Segelintir  graduan gagal dalam aspek kemahiran insan mereka . Mereka ini lazimnya tidak yakin berkomunikasi dalam Bahasa Inggeris dan bahasa antarabangsa lain. Akibatnya, mereka langsung tidak dapat menyakinkan penemuduga ketika menghadiri temeduga. This statement is the effect if graduates do not have the opportunity to get jobs because they are not confident to communicate in English and the international language.
Next fallacy is an appeal to tradition. The author stated “Memang sudah lumrah hanya sebilangan kecil graduan saja yang akan dapat mencapai kerjaya impian mereka”.  It looks like the author is just simply concludes that there are always a few graduates manage to achieve their dream career.

Besides that, the fallacy use in the article is appeal to ignorance. For example, “Ribuan graduan gagal mendapat kerja dalam tempoh enam bulan pertama selepas tamat pengajian. Ramai terpaksa memilih kerja yang bukan dikategorikan sebagai kerjaya dan bukan bidang kepakaran mereka. In my opinion, this statement does not have a lot of evidence on why the graduates had to choose work that is not categorized as their preferred career and not within their field of expertise. In conclusion, I think this article is very useful to readers especially for post graduates because there are a lot of information that will surely start to being spark in mind.

In my humble opinion, the article is quite an informative piece for fresh graduates, in search for jobs regardless whether it is a lifelong ambition or just a mere life-supporting jobs. It comprises of beneficial tips especially for graduates-to-be. However, despite all the tips given, the article are still lacking due to some fallacies used. Firstly, ad populum is clearly potrayed through the statement, "Untuk pekerjaan profesional seperti di syarikat antarabangsa, tidak kurang dari 200 orang dari kumpulan amat layak, memohon untuk satu kerja yang sama".

In the statement "Memang sudah lumrah hanya sebilangan kecil graduan saja yang akan dapat mencapai kerjaya impian mereka...", there is obviously the existence of the fallacy of appeal to tradition. It is common to assume that only a small number of graduates succeeded in living their dream job due to high competition at a time. Beside that, there is also the use of slippery slope. It is clear through the statement, "Segelintir graduan gagal alam aspek Kemahiran Insan mereka. Mereka ini lazimnya tidak yakin berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggeris dan bahasa antarabangsa lain. Akibatnya, mereka langsung tidak dapat meyakinkan penemuduga ketika menghadiri temu duga".

As a conclusion, it is safe to say that it is undeniable that the article is a sure helping hand for graduates out there. However, total dependency upon the tips given are not recommended as the article is clearly imbalanced due to a few fallacies used by the author. I believe, a good article is one that is free of fallacies.

As to my opinion, the article is definitely a fun piece to read. It is far from the usual full of facts article. The seven points given by the author are definitely a must-try for those who wish to be cool. However, the article is imperfect due to the mere use of opinions and fallacies.

Firstly, there is clearly the use of appeal to inappropriate authority. For example, the author wrote that the readers should closely follow the seven steps by the statement, "Because i am an adult and i know better...because i am 'The Guru of Cool' ". The question is, can we put our  sole trust in adults to advise us on the real definition of cool? Besides, there is also the use of a type of fallacy, which is slippery slope. It is obvious by the statement, "It makes your teeth go yellow and gives a pungent stench to your sweat". These are all the bad effects of smoking. Through the statement of "I know, i know, some of you are allowed to drink alcohol when you come of age", there is definitely a presence of appeal to tradition. It is a fact that a person is only allowed to consume alcohol after the age of majority.

In a conclusion, the author deserves a clap as to the witty writing style which clearly grab my attention to read. However, fret not, the article still have lots of room for improvement starting by eliminating all the fallacies used.

In my opinion, this is a good article to be read especially for university students like me who will be graduating soon. There is a lot of important information and good advice that students must take note of which are written by the author based on her research.

However, some of the explanations are not relevant due to several fallacies are included in this article. By the statement “statistik menunjukkan sesetengah ‘kerjaya impian’ tinggal impian semata-mata kerana terlalu ramai yang berminat dengan kerjaya itu”, there is definitely an appeal to ignorance. It is lack of proof and the author simply made a conclusion. Next, the other type of fallacy is appeal to tradition. It can be seen from the statement “memang sudah lumrah hanya sebilangan kecil graduan saja yang akan mencapai kerjaya impian mereka” which the author concludes his beliefs based on personal experience that not all graduates get their dream jobs. The other example is slippery slope. It clearly shown from the statement “ mereka ini lazimnya tidak yakin berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggeris dan bahasa antarabangsa lain. Akibatnya, mereka langsung tidak dapat meyakinkan penemuduga ketika menghadiri temu duga”, which shows a series of effects when they have no confidence to communicate in different languages.

As a conclusion, I think the ‘Formula Kerjaya Impian’ listed by the author are good reference for anyone who will be graduating soon so as to be well prepared for their dream career even the tips are common like what the other authors have wrote.
